Region

The Médoc region stretches from the city of Bordeaux, following the gravel and clay soils of the west bank of the Gironde River all the way to the coast, some 100 miles further north. It encompasses the superior sub-region of Haut- Médoc to the south. Within that sub-region, there are further communal or village appellations, namely Listrac and Moulis, and the four great names of St. Estèphe, Pauillac, St Julien and Margaux.

Producer

Chateau La Pigotte Terre Feu, situated in Saint Yzan and Blaignan in the Medoc, has been in the Freche family for 80 years. In those days the estate worked the land with crops such as wheat to produce cereals and farmed Pauillac Lamb. In 1992, Cedric Perez and his wife Stephanie Freche, took over the property from Stephanie`s parents, putting 12 hectares under vine, which has since expanded to 30 hectares.
Tasting Notes
Chateau la Pigotte Terre-Feu is a small production from thirty year old vines. This 50/50 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon is fermented in concrete vats. Half of the blend remains in the vats for twelve months to develop, while the rest is in old barrique which lends structure and toasty notes. The wine is a bright ruby red in colour with notes of fresh redcurrants, plums and bramble fruits, a subtle mineral note combines with sweet spices and soft tannins on the finish.
Food
Serve with roasted meats such as game birds or lamb.
