Region

Winemaking in the Czech Republic can be traced back to Roman times as archaeological excavations have unearthed viticulture and winemaking artifacts. There are two wine growing regions defined in Czech law; Moravia and Bohemia. Movaria is responsible for 96% of all production.

Producer

Sonberk was established in 2003 but evidence of winemaking in the area goes back to the 13th century, when the south exposed sloping location was originally called `Sonnberg`. Nowadays the Sonberk vineyard is 45 hectares with an extraordinary view of the Palava Hill. Sustainable viticulture is practiced in the growing of Palava, Riesling, Traminer and Sauvignon.
Tasting Notes
Made from Palava, a native Czech crossing made from Muller-Thurgau and Roter Traminer, the grapes were laid out on straw mats to dry which concentrated the sugars making this intense and naturally sweet wine. This opulent dessert wine has rich characters of ripe stone fruits, mango and marmalade with some sweet spice notes of cinnamon and crystallised ginger.
Food
Serve with fruit desserts or with creamy cheeses.
