Beaujolais Nouveau et arrive!
Keeping with tradition, Beaujolais Nouveau is available on the third Thursday in November, this year it's the 15th.
Last November we tasted a range of Nouveau’s on release day that included a Natural Beaujolais 2017 that was undoubtedly the star of the show. It had more fruit and purity than the standard Nouveau and exhibited none of the acetic or ‘cidery’ aromas that Natural wines can have. Natural wine undergoes a wild yeast fermentation without the addition of any Sulfites at any stage, is not treated with any additives or corrective processes and bottled without micro filtration. It is the purest, unadulterated form of wine… and potentially the most unstable. However, Nouveau is the ideal format for a Natural wine as it is bottled to be drunk before poor storage conditions can lead to any deterioration.
Jules Chauvet, great winegrower from the Beaujolais and scientist was driven by a strong conviction. Father of the natural wine movement, he used to explain : “Ideally, one shouldn’t use sulfites, but would therefore have to be certain of the quality of the harvest and of himself”. Thanks to an incredible 2018 vintage, environmental winegrowing practices and the knowledge of our talented winemaker,
Maison Jean Loron delivers this terroir driven wine that has fermented naturally, without added sulfites, from harvest till the final bottling. Hand harvest, destemmed grapes and a long maceration. An extreme extraction of tannins allowing a better protection of the wine. The result is a lively wine, with unspoilt and authentic fruit aromas.
